Individual Therapy

David’s therapeutic work with individuals is psychodynamic, relational, and bottom up in its approach. This means that David approaches his therapeutic work with clients by helping individuals to make greater meaning of their problems.

Most often individuals find themselves in therapy because they are seeking understanding and insight into problems. David works with clients collaboratively to build a meaningful understanding of issues, helping individuals to put language to complex feelings, emotions, and repeating patterns that might otherwise seem bewildering.

David is holistic in his approach to therapy, recognizing that we are whole-person beings. In a typical session David will ask various questions that will help to guide client insights towards an integration of somatic (physical), cognitive (thinking), and emotional (feeling-based) experiences.

David prioritizes the humanity of his work. He values the cultivation of wisdom, self-compassion, and psychological growth. Sessions are intended to feel like a safe place to explore thoughts and feelings in a down-to-earth environment.

Couples Therapy

David views relationship challenges as opportunities for learning, personal development, and growth. Every long-term relationship weathers different seasons and sometimes during challenging times, it can be helpful to receive an objective perspective.

When conflicts are repeating and connection has declined, couples can become entangled in challenges, making it difficult to view problems clearly. David helps couples to see beyond the immediate challenges, assisting each client with viewing relational impasses from a broader perspective. He helps clients to identify and then heal repeating patterns that can maintain fractures in the relational foundations.

David draws upon a number of theories and therapeutic modalities to support clients in understanding and working through issues. He mainly engages couples from an applied attachment-based lens, drawing from theories of Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT).

David’s overall approach is non-judgemental, inclusive, frank, and empathetic.

Clinical Hypnotherapy

David has received certification as a Clinical Counselling Hypnotherapy (C. Hyp) practitioner with Daybreak Therapy and Training located in Toronto, Ontario (www.daybreaktherapy.ca).

David offers clinical hypnotherapy services as an optional integrative component of his regular talk therapy practice. Clients can request to explore hypnotherapy services as an additional approach to traditional therapeutic support.

Hypnotherapy is a lesser-known and yet evidence-based and effective approach to helping clients reduce stress, increase self-confidence, and move beyond self-limiting beliefs that can unconsciously contribute to a variety of life challenges.

In a typical hypnotherapy session, David will draw upon techniques of clinical hypnotherapy and mindfulness to help facilitate a deeper experience of relaxation and reduced stress. Hypnotherapy can support with creating a greater sense of calm, shifting self-limiting beliefs, and establishing supportive insights into challenges.
